Do you have an artistic flair, and take pleasure in drawing, painting, and other artistic endeavors, and own a garage that is functioning solely as a storage shed? Well, then why don’t you consider disposing of those stacked up storage boxes, or finding an alternate storage space, and transform your garage into an art studio?

A garage is generally much larger and will provide much more space to explore your artistic activities than to try and use any other room inside your house – plus, a garage gives you the freedom to expand to the outdoors. But before you just dive head first into a project to turn your garage into a studio, you should spend some time doing a little research and planning first.

One thing that you will want to keep in mind is how you are going to set everything up. You may want to make a list of materials that you are going to need such as easels, drop cloths, and other important things that will help you to be able to express your creativity. Once you have you list made out you will be able to start thinking about where everything is going to go.

Make sure that you position yourself so that you are able to face the way that you want. If there are windows on the garage door then you might want to face toward them so that you can peer out of them every once in a while.

Transforming your garage into your own art studio is a large project, but if you use some forethought, you will be able to get the work done efficiently. You can be confident that your finished art studio will be conducive to creativity, by making the necessary preparations, including making a list of needed items, and deciding where they will be arranged.

Fixing A Hot Water Heater

Hot water heaters can run into a multitude of problems. These problems can include a lack of hot water, foul odors, water discoloration, leaks, and loud noises. Though they can seem daunting, most problems, when identified early, can prove to be a quick fix. Let’s look more closely at some of these issues and the ways in which they can be resolved.

Water discoloration often is a result of an eroding water heater tank interior. This occurs when the sacrificial anode rod, a device used to slowly decay in order to protect the tank’s lining, needs to be replaced. These are inexpensive and can be purchased at your local hardware store. After replacing the rod, it is important to flush your water heater and refill it with fresh water.

Another symptom of a faulty sacrificial anode rod is a rotten egg smell emitted from your hot water heater. This is due to bacteria forming in the water as the rod continues to decompose. Replacing the device and flushing the water tank should do the job.

Sometimes a hot water heater will make unusual noises. This is because sediments build up in the tank and put a strain on the water heater. Flushing out your water heater will fix this common problem.

A defective temperature and pressure valve can cause leaks. Likewise, so can a combustion chamber that is rusting or accumulating water. For the former, a quick replacement should do the trick. If the combustion chamber has pooling or rusting, however, the water heater most likely needs to be replaced.

At times, the problem can be the quality of hot water your water heater produces. If there is a lack of hot water, it could mean the thermocouple needs replacing or the pilot light went out. Replacing the thermocouple or relighting the pilot will often be the remedy.

On the other hand, if your water is tepid, it may be that cold and hot water connections are mixing. To check for this, open a hot water faucet on your water heater after shutting off the water supply. If you notice water is still flowing, then cold water from your other appliances is mixing with your water heater’s hot water, resulting in lukewarm water.

If problems persist, call a professional plumber. This could mean the causes are multifaceted or your hot water heater needs to be replaced. Remember to always research proper methods and your local plumbing codes before attempting to resolve any problems yourself.

What Should You Construct Your New Patio Out Of?

Constructing a new patio this summer or redoing an old one will present you with a lot of choices for materials. Each one of them has its advantages and drawbacks but they will all go a long way of contributing to a beautiful patio.

Anyone who lives in a climate that is cold in the winter and hot in the summer might want to use flagstone to build his or her patio. This is because flagstone is very strong and can withstand the elements better than some of the other rocks. A harsh environment requires you to use a material that wont crack easily and flagstone fits the bill. You can buy flagstone as a man made material or you can buy the real thing but whichever you do, no two flagstone patios will ever look the same. This kind of rock looks different every time you build something with it and it is a great choice for any patio.

Another one of your options for patio materials is tile. There are as many tile patio ideas as there are kinds of tile. Tile comes in all sorts of textures and colors and this is one of the main advantages of using it for your patio surface. The possibilities are endless of what kind of design, color, and look you can make your patio when you use tile. Another benefit is that tile is very smooth which makes it easy for walking with little chance of tripping. Some other patio materials might not be a smooth and the patio furniture might not sit perfectly square on the patio surface.

One of the ways to have a great looking patio this summer is to use brick. People use brick patio ideas because brick looks good almost anywhere and it is relatively easy to lay. A brick patio can be built by someone that does not have a whole lot of experience if they have the help of someone who has laid brick before. Brick is a substantial looking stone and a patio constructed with brick has that hardy look. Brick is also a colorful stone and if you add a nice garden around your brick patio, you will have an area where your guests will love to hang out.

Finally, slate is another stone material that will give your patio a one of a kind look. Slate comes in all colors and textures that allows you to construct a patio that will look different from anything else in your neighborhood. You can most likely find slate at some of your local shops that carry stone or marble and if not, you can ask around for it at a home improvement store and they will know where to go to get it.

Window Screen Cleaning Made Easy

It is a tough job cleaning the window screens of your home. With so many of them to wash at once, it is no wonder why people give up. Removing a few of the screens at a time, will help you accomplish the task, all while beautifying your home.

Are you considering taking off all of the screens at once? Do not do it! Removing all of the screens at once will make the job seem bigger than it is, and the chances of you quitting will be greater. Take five screens down first, and then take the rest down after you have cleaned those. Do not mix up the order in which you removed them, because you will need to know which screens fit which window when it is time to re-install them.

Make sure you put all of the screws, clips, and springs in a Ziploc sandwich bag. You will need to make sure you can find these tiny items once you have finished cleaning the screens. Trust me, nothing is more aggravating, than looking for a little piece of hardware near the edge of the grass. Put them in a bag, and it will make everything easier in the end.

Now that the window screens and hardware are removed, get a bucket of warm soapy water, and a large soft bristle scrub brush. Find a nice shady spot to set up your clean area. Lay the screens flat on the concrete, and begin scrubbing both sides of each of the screens, making sure not to scrub too hard. The material the screen is made from is fragile, and scrubbing them too hard will tear them. If you happen to tear the screen, there is a great step by step guide in the resource box of this article, that will teach you how to build and install a new screen.

Rinse the screens with clean water, after you have washed both sides. Do not skip this step. There should not be any soap left on your screens after they are rinsed. Attach a sprayer to the end of your water hose, and spray them clean with a firm stream of water.

Your screens should now be washed and rinsed. Using a dry cloth, pat the screens dry. You want to pat and blot, and not rub. If you rub the towel across the mesh, it will only catch lint, and your screens will look dingy from a distance. Some people let their screens air dry, but I recommend hand drying them, as most often the screens get damaged when left unattended.

It is now time to put the hardware back on the screens, and return them to the windows. Re-install the screws, clips and hardware. Angle the top of the screen as you insert it back into the window, and push it in at the bottom. Clean the remaining screens the same way for regular home maintenance.
